Nigatta was a much slower pace. Feels like Sunday everyday.
Nigatta was a much slower pace. Feels like Sunday everyday. Chilled. It has fabulous restaurants and little local bars, great scenery. Definitely worth a visit for a few days. The bullet train ride from Tokyo to Niigata had lots of beautiful scenery along the way. So glad we decided to visit here on our third trip to Japan. Incredibly easy to get around with such an efficient bus service.

I spent 2 nights in Niigata because the hotel I wanted was booked out. I recommend spending there at least three nights. I visited Yahiko, a city nearby, which has a gorgeous park with Momiji trees, it was beautiful at the end of October. However, I had only a small amount of time for Niigata itself.

The only thing going for Niigata is the Alchemist Bar & Dining restaurant (Australian chef/owner). We were really disappointed and had been to 5 other cities in Japan which were fantastic. We would not visit Niigata again. A lot of litter and surprisingly, graffiti which is rare for Japan.

Days before checking in at Country Hotel Niigata, I was in Tokyo and Nagano and my schedule was crazy, I hardly got quality sleep. But when I was in that hotel, I got all the sleep I needed because it was so quiet, the room facilities were just right, and the hotel staff were nice and friendly.

I stay at downtown, near the train station. So it is pretty much a lot of things to do. Excellent restaurants all around the area.
The rest of the trip was taking trains to see different districts of Niigata. Lots of them has country side feels but it was good. Cute, well managed cities.

Niigata city itself is a little lackluster; there’s some interesting things to do (Pier Bandai and the nearby Toki Messe observation deck, the ponshukan at the station), though the real gems lay outside the city like Yahiko mountain and shrine
We stayed here two nights before our trip to Sado Island. We had a double room with in-room bathroom and it was small but not tiny. There is a free onsen and free noodles at night. Tattoos are not allowed in the onsen but if you have a small one it might be ok. You can also add breakfast if you’d like. Dormy Inn is a chain in Japan and this was just like other Dormy Inns we’ve stayed. Clean, basic rooms good for a couple but best for a quick stay when you just need a place to sleep while traveling.
- The shampoo, very nice, keep your hair in the shape you want. I really wanna know the name of that shampoo but forgot to ask.
- The staffs are very friendly and available 24/7.
- The single room is decent for the price.
- The hotel location is within a shotengai so I guess it’s quite convenient?
- You can rent bikes from Hotel Okura, which is 400m from this hotel, provided that you have signed up as a member from rent-a-cycle near the Niigata station.
The location was great, it is quiet. and the vue in winter is amazing with snow.
staff were really helpful and we had free VOD which is not much but still goood to have.
I would recommand anyone who is alone and wants to explore niigata to stay here but do not expect much from the hotel
The hotel itself, the lobby and the rooms are clearly reformed and look great. Hotel literally could not be any nearer to the train station. Rooms are quite spacious. Breakfast is as good as most.
The Onsen and relaxation room were fantastic.
Very large spa area with multiple different types of baths - some with jets. Multiple restaurants and a convenience store in the lobby. Fitness room and pool too. Located close to Niigata station
